Meet the Trailblazers

Ronel B. Runes

I appreciate the fact that we have access to the Smart Classroom, which is a premier facility in the university. Despite being new to the field, I have been thoroughly enjoying my first month in the MS Agroecology program. The subject of Environmental Aspects of Waste Management has been particularly enlightening, shedding light on both the improvements and flaws in waste management practices, in the Philippines and globally. This presents an invaluable opportunity to develop solutions and address the existing problems. Most importantly, our professors who are experts in the field and adept at translating their expertise into easily understandable information.

(Ronel is a Project Technical Staff at the Institute of Climate Change and Environmental Management. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture major in crop protection.)

Kathrina M. Villar

Joining the MS Agroecology Pilot Testing program is an exciting opportunity to immerse oneself in the dynamic world of sustainable agriculture. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle the pressing global challenges of food security and environmental sustainability.

(Kathrina is a Science Research Assistant at the Institute of Climate Change and Environmental Management. She previously earned a degree in biology.)

Jocelyn T. Neuda

My decision to enroll in the MS Agroecology Pilot Testing Program was influenced by different factors, including my love for sustainable agriculture and our environmental responsibility to safeguard the environment. Environmental responsibility weighed heavily on my decision-making process. We can see that traditional agriculture methods are not sustainable and are bad for the environment. Because of this, learning about Agroecology will teach you how crucial it is to think of more environmentally friendly and sustainable ways to approach agriculture in order to satisfy society's demands for food. Also, the skills and knowledge acquired during my studies would enable me to work in various sectors, including research and practical implementation of agroecological practices. That would allow me to address of food security, climate change mitigation and environmental protection.

(Jocelyn is affiliated at the Philippine Carabao Center. She holds a BS degree in environmental science.)

Mark Orville G. Esusan

I will recommend the program to other students because there is a rising need for experts in agroecology-related sectors, including sustainable agriculture and environmental science.

(Orville is a project assistant at the Crops and Resources R&D Center in CLSU. He earned a BS degree in environmental science.)

Janah Elvira S. Magpantay

The program, which is the integration of different disciplines — agriculture and environmental science, will allow me to contribute to sustainable development goals, including food security, nutrition and health, climate action, and biodiversity.

(Janah is a Research Assistant at the Institute of Climate Change and Environmental Management. She has a BS degree in biology and her major field of specialization is zoology.)

Coleen Meryl R. Panes

The MS Agroecology is a new program, which will be offered at CLSU. I joined the Pilot Testing class because for me it is a great honor to be in pioneering class, experiencing the activities first hand. The program covers some of the latest technologies developed by the institution and involves highly knowledgeable professors. This may lead to higher level of knowledge and opportunity that is why I joined the program.

(An instructor at the Aurora State College of Science and Technology, Coleen earned a BS degree in Agriculture major in crop science.)

Jennylyn C. Santos

Agroecology can lead us into sustainably practice agriculture where we do not need inputs that can harm us and our environment.

(Jennylyn is an Administrative Aide at the Institute of Climate Change and Environmental Management. She holds a BS degree in Environmental Science.)
